Let’s be honest: payments used to be a pain. If you’re a SaaS founder, product leader, or engineer, you’ve probably stared down the barrel of a tangled payment integration wondering, “Why does something so essential feel so unnecessarily complicated?” You’re not alone. The truth is, the world of embedded payments has evolved—dramatically. What once required months of development, multiple vendors, endless compliance headaches, and the patience of a saint… can now be handled with a few lines of c
Every day I hear more and more about the “sea of sameness” from founders, CEOs, CROs, and CMOs. The dialog goes something like this: There are so many products out there, They are getting more similar, Customers are more confused than ever, Unable to see the differences between them. Thus, we are lost in sea of sameness. I believe the first four statements are largely true, though I might challenge statement two.
You’re running paid search campaigns. The targeting is dialed in. Your copy is converting. But somehow, your performance is slipping. You might be getting hijacked. Ad hijacking is one of the most overlooked threats in paid media. Hijackers will often create their own media or copy to mimic your ads. In many cases, it can be difficult to detect but it’s a bit more obvious on social media (i.e., logos or branding can look off, creative looks cheap or rushed, etc.).

In this episode of Growth Stage, we interview payments industry legend and VP of Payments at FastSpring, Jeremy Waxman about his thoughts on what the most common payment stack attacks are, why bad actors choose those particular types of attacks, and what you can do to make your payment stack more secure regardless of who your payment provider is. With 25+ years of experience spanning Comcast, Fiserv, and Digital River, Jeremy has seen it all — from brazen carding attacks to operationally overwhe
You’ve built a great product, but users keep dropping off before they see its value? I’ve been there. At times, even a great in-app onboarding flow isn’t enough. Some users forget to come back. Others never make it to activation. That’s where an onboarding email sequence comes in. An effective sequence can re-engage users and help them hit the first milestone faster.

The SaaS PE market is heating up again, and Thoma Bravo just made a big statement buying SaaS restaurant pioneer Olo for $2 Billion. Yesterday, Thoma Bravo announced they’re acquiring restaurant tech platform Olo (NYSE: OLO) for $2 billion in an all-cash deal. There’s a lot of noise surrounding the ability of AI agents to connect to your tools, systems and data. But building an AI application into a reliable, secure workflow agent isn’t as simple as plugging in an API. As an engineering leader, it can be challenging to make sense of this evolving landscape, but agent tooling provides such high value that it’s critical we figure out how to move forward.

Here’s how early-stage founders should approach it: Hire Early, Even Before It Feels Necessary Don’t wait until churn becomes a problem. Customer Success should be a single-digit hire—ideally, your first 5-10 employees should include at least one CS hire.
How do you strike the balance between the short-term marketing tactics that have a very quick return, but are also less scalable, and inhibit exponential growth, and others with a far longer return?

Dear SaaStr: How Long of a Ramp Period Should I Give a New VP of Sales? Look, to be clear, the best ones just hit the ground running. Their first week and really even their first day. Everyone else … looks a little lost when they start 😉 For a Head of Sales at a seed or Series A startup, you should give them one full sales cycle —usually 90 days—to show meaningful progress.

A few months ago, I was reviewing our RevOps budget when one line item jumped out: our Customer Data Platform (CDP) spend. It hadn’t changed in over a year, but our use of the platform had. Overall, public B2B companies are struggling, with growth falling to new lows. But that’s overall. The ones selling outside of tech? Many are doing pretty, pretty, well. TL;DR: While most public SaaS companies are growing at 8-10%, the companies crushing it are those selling outside the tech bubble – restaurants, construction, logistics, and e-commerce.
User onboarding is not a one-person job. All teams (including my own, i.e., product teams) have to be involved in the process from start to end. We have to oversee how we’re engaging customers , how we’re structuring emails in our onboarding sequence, and what user experience we’re providing once they’re on the app. As such, I’ve not only overseen a fair share of onboarding emails but have also received and responded to quite a few of them.
