The first time I worked with Steve was back in 2003. The idea was that we wanted to create a user experience that was the opposite of hard. I wanted to create an experience that was similar to Dropbox or Facebook. To get from 2 percent to 40 percent took a lot of growth hacking.

In a kind of analogous way, everyone uses the Internet now, which wasn’t true certainly, when we started Flickr, in late 2003. In any event, in our case, the growth hacking worked from a top of the funnel perspective, but it was not closing deals. How people think of us is the sum of all of their experiences.
