SaaSOps

SaaSOps

Two years ago, I wrote an article about best ways to SaaS-enable applications. This article is a follow up to that article, discussing SaaSOps. SaaSOps is a practice referring to how software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications are operated, managed, and secured through centralized and automated operations. Successful SaaSOps implementation results reduced friction, improved collaboration, more efficient operation, and better employee and customer experience.

Some of the key components of SaaSOps are:

  • Auto provisioning
  • SaaS usage metering
  • Subscription management
  • Tenant management
  • Tenant notifications
  • Invoicing. billing and payment
  • System and application monitoring
  • Infrastructure optimization
  • Cloud Marketplace publishing

As expected, the key to successful SaaSOps implementation is great tools. There are generally three ways to acquire the needed capabilities:

1.      Develop the tools

a.      This requires great planning, and a big investment

b.      The development will usually take a long time

c.      The cost and time requirements usually eliminate this option

2.      Select a tool for each component of SaaSOps

a.      This requires acquiring several tools

b.      There are some excellent points solutions for some of the components of SaaSOps

                                                              i.     For Infrastructure optimization, tools such as CloudHealth, CloudCheckr, and ComPaaS offer excellent solutions

ii.     For cloud marketplace publishing , tools such as tackle.io, and Marketizer are outstanding options

c.      However, if you need more than just one or two components, the time and effort to integrate all the different tools usually become deterrents

3.      Find a tool that that can help you manage all the SaaSOps components

a.      Corent Technology’s SaaSOps tool, is the only that I am aware that provides all the SaaSOps components

b.      If the application is not yet SaaS-enabled, Corent SaaSOps will SaaS-able the app in a matter of days, without any source code change, and 80-90% of the work will be done in an automated fashion.

c.      The Same tool will then provide a dashboard that will allow SaaSOps for the apps, or multiple apps, across one or multiple region

Having access to a powerful tool such as Corent Technology’s SaaSOps, can provide a significant edge to ISVs who need to SaaS-enable their applications, and efficiently operate their SaaS moving forward.
