Try Micromilestones to Push Through Slower Growth

When I was CEO at EchoSign, I made a big strategic error in Year 1. I set an insane plan of going from $0m to $2m in ARR in our first 12 months in business. It wasn’t because I couldn’t build a model — the model was sound. The mistake was a combination of not knowing enough about SaaS back then, and also having incredible confidence in the team’s past track record. I thought we had the best of the best and we’d hit the number for sure.

Mental Models to Help You Grow

Sales Enablement, SaaS and Growth

One of the biggest challenges businesses face when they grow is scaling effective , autonomous and quick decision-making. What worked with 30 employees will start creaking at 300, and break well before you hit the 3,000-mark. Good decision-making is extremely important. It has a compounding effect - the more good decisions a business makes, the better the results will be.

5 best SaaS knowledge bases & why you need one in 2020

Customers are most satisfied with a product when they can find the information they need quickly and efficiently. This is especially true for software products, including SaaS, which can have a steeper learning curve than other products. If you are to minimize churn and maximize profits, you want your users to be as informed as possible about how to use your product. A knowledge base is one of the best ways to accomplish this. What Will this Crisis Accelerate in Your Ecosystem?

Tomasz Tunguz

I read an op-ed in Bloomberg last week written by a stock trader who was on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange during the 1989 crash. His manager brought him into his office. The trader feared his manager would fire him. Instead, his manager told him that these kinds of crises accelerate change and that he should embrace them. I’m struggling to find the link now, but if I do, I will update this blog post with it.

7 Proven Strategies to Reduce Churn (With Real Examples)

I spent over a week speaking with different SaaS founders and marketers about how they successfully reduced churn for their business. One founder told me the key to how he was able to achieve 0.1% churn by doing something every SaaS business should be doing, but most don’t. Another walked me through the onboarding emails he sends to retain 94.7% of his customers. And one showed me a simple tactic their company used that helped reduce churn from 9% to 7.5% in just a few months.

No One Wants to Cancel A Trusted Vendor

It can really tough to think through the short-term pressures of churn. SMBs are hurting the most, and the churn will be highest there. Enterprises are churning less, but slowing new purchases way down. Just remember one thing as your North Star here: No Customer Wants to Leave a Vendor They Count On. You may have 1000s or more customers. But often, your key stakeholders only manage a few key, core applications they need.

How We Are Planning Now at Team SaaStr

I’m pretty tired right now. It’s not the stock market, or other things. It’s the fact that we’ve been doing Corona planning since January — earlier than most in U.S. and Europe.
