Coupler.io: The Good and the Bad

Our research team here at Crazy Egg scoured the web for verified user reviews across several trusted review sites. Based on this information, we identified common strengths and weaknesses that were consistent throughout the reviews. Continue below to learn more about Coupler.io’s strengths and the scenarios where it shines above the crowd, as well as some areas where the platform can use some improvement.

What Coupler.io Is Good At

Coupler.io definitely has its fair share of strengths compared to alternatives on the market. It stands out with its security features, data updating frequency, and versatility for many different use cases. Business leaders also tend to love its Google Sheets integrations and ease of use.

Robust security: Any time you’re working with apps that handle business data, security always needs to be top-of-mind. Coupler.io doesn’t actually store the data that you’re using on any of its internal databases. Instead, it just acts as an intermediary between the source and the destination.

The short-lived moments when your data passes through Coupler.io are secured through encryptions and TLS protocol transfers. Coupler.io’s backend infrastructure is hosted on AWS and Google Cloud, which both provide high levels of security and protection. They also comply with a wide range of global and industry security standards, including GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001, SOC 1, SOC 2, SOC 3, and more.

Automatic data refreshing: Lots of similar tools on the market let you connect data sources to build dashboards and custom reports. But the problem with those tools is that you’ll have to re-create your dashboards whenever you get new data. Coupler.io shines with its ability to refresh your data as often as every 15 minutes.

You’re in full control of the refresh schedules for your data. For example, set an automated refresh to happen hourly between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. every Monday through Saturday. For another connection, you can schedule an automated refresh every morning at 5 a.m. so you’ll have the most up-to-date information at the beginning of each work day.

Google Sheets integration: Coupler.io’s compatibility with Google Sheets is arguably the most-mentioned feature within user reviews. People love the way it connects complex data from sources like Airtable, QuickBooks, or Pipedrive and turns it into sensible information within Sheets. Coupler.io also has a fully-featured Google Sheets extension that’s available with every plan, including the free trial. This helps you not only gather your data into spreadsheets, but also transform it in a way that can be analyzed to make smarter decisions.

Wide applicability: One noteworthy virtue of Coupler.io is its versatility. It’s not just designed or marketed toward businesses of certain sizes or within specific industries. The platform also isn’t limited to use cases within a few specific departments. It can really be used for whatever your business needs by taking data from multiple sources and sorting it into common destinations.

Some user reviews come from solo operators and small businesses, while others come from organizations with 5,000 to 10,000 employees. There are reviews spanning industries such as healthcare, IT, accounting, financial services, consumer goods, non-profits, consulting, and higher education. You can use Coupler.io to create ecommerce KPI dashboards, sales lead dashboards, ad performance, SaaS product metrics, PPC reporting, and so much more.

Built for non-technical users: Another common theme amongst real Coupler.io user reviews is people praising the platform’s simplicity. The majority of users of this platform aren’t data engineers and aren’t using an in-house technical team to set up the connections.

The platform’s no-code functionality and ease of use lets anyone use it to create data connections and custom reports pulled from multiple sources. Coupler.io does a decent job of walking you through the process and limiting friction along the way, but there is a notable initial learning curve (more on that in a bit). But, even if you don’t have technical skills, you’ll still be able to use this tool to reach your desired outcomes with just a bit of self-education.

What Coupler.io Is Lacking

The vast majority of Coupler.io users think the product is excellent. But, there are still a few shortcomings that were mentioned, including limited support, limited training, and limited data sources available out-of-the-box.

Support and training: All Coupler.io plans offer the same level of support. You can reach out for help via email or use the knowledge base for self-service. While this type of support is common for software company’s lower-level pricing tiers, it’s surprising to see it for even the highest-paid plans of Coupler.io.

You do get 30 minutes of guided onboarding on its Squad plan and an hour of guided onboarding for the Business plan. But, beyond that, you won’t have any other support beyond the basic level unless you’re getting a custom integration or consultancy service. With that said, customer reviews for Coupler.io’s support are overwhelmingly positive across the board

Data sources: Coupler.io supports over 200 integrations and can pull data from more than 70 apps already. However, just over 30 of those apps come standard as a core connection option. The rest, labeled as premium sources, require you to pay for access to each one.

When you consider how many business apps there are on the market today, it would be nice to see Coupler.io support more of them in general. Coupler.io can set up a custom integration for your business if you can’t find it available on the platform, but that’s also an additional cost and not an out-of-the-box source.

Learning curve: While most user reviews rave about the platform’s simplicity, there are still some who bemoan the platform’s learning curve. Everyone seemed to work through the process and achieve their desired outcomes, but some feedback noted that it took more steps than they were anticipating.

So, if you’re considering Coupler.io, don’t expect to have your automations and connections up and running within minutes. It will take you some time to learn how the tool works and how to get everything set up.

Coupler.io Pricing & Options

Coupler.io is a platform that has two main offerings – a data integration solution and data analytics services. The platform uses integrations with multiple apps and automates the data flows from a single interface while providing endless options for the way you analyze data from custom dashboards or reports. Coupler.io also offers data analytics consulting services for organizations in need of hands-on guidance from the Coupler.io consulting team.

With plans starting at $49 per month with an annual contract and a 14-day free trial available, Coupler.io has solutions for businesses of all sizes. We’ll break down the platform options and consulting services in greater detail below. This will help you determine which solutions are the best fit for your organization.

Coupler.io Data Analytics Platform

The data analytics platform from Coupler.io supports over 200 integrations from more than 70 business apps. Here’s how it works.

First, you select the app and data that you want to export. Then, configure a destination for the data—such as a spreadsheet, data warehouse, table, or workbook. From here, Coupler.io lets you set customized schedules to automate how often your data refreshes. After that, you can connect data from multiple sources into a data visualization tool to create dashboards that update automatically.

For example, let’s say you wanted to use Coupler.io to help improve your company’s marketing reporting initiatives. You could set up a data flow that takes information from Facebook Ads, Google Ads, and LinkedIn Ads, along with CRM data from HubSport or Pipedrive, and set up an auto-reporting dashboard in Google Sheets. You could also push that data into a visualization tool like Tableau or Microsoft Power BI.

The company has also recently launched what it’s calling Coupler.io 2.0, offering even greater functionality than before. With Coupler.io 2.0, you can now connect over 70 apps to Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio). If you use Looker Studio, you may be used to its slower performance when you try to connect multiple data sources manually. But if you connect to Looker Studio via Coupler.io, you can seamlessly visualize and blend your data as well as build custom cross-channel dashboards–all while maintaining consistent performance.

Additionally, Coupler.io 2.0 offers new options for previewing and transforming data. Whether you’re exporting data from one source or merging data from multiple sources, you can now edit columns, calculate custom metrics, sort and filter data, and make other desired edits straight from the Coupler.io interface. This means you’re getting clean, organized, and ready-to-use data every time.

The best part about using Coupler.io is that it doesn’t require any coding or technical expertise to set up these integrations and automated flows. Since the data at your destination refreshes regularly, you won’t have to keep running these reports manually, either. Simply set up the flows you need, and then you refer to your tables and reports knowing that you’re seeing the most current information.

It’s worth noting that Coupler.io itself is not a data visualization tool or reporting platform. Coupler.io simply connects your data and apps so you can get the most out of your assets at scale.

In terms of pricing, there are three different plans to choose from:

  • Starter — $64 per month
  • Squad — $132 per month
  • Business — $332 per month

You can save 25% on any plan with an annual contract, lowering the Starter plan to $49, Squad to $99, and Business to $249. Coupler.io also has an enterprise solution with custom pricing available.

At each plan tier, you’ll get support for more users, more data runs, and a higher frequency of automated refreshes. For example, the Starter plan comes with two users, 500 data runs, and daily refreshes, while Squad allows for five users and 4,000 runs while refreshing data as often as every 30 minutes.

While Coupler.io supports over 200 integrations, not every plan is compatible with every source. You’ll notice that some data sources are marked as “premium” options. Premium sources are paid add-ons, priced individually, and typically range from $300 to $1,000 per app.

You’ll need to sign up for a Squad plan or higher to access premium sources, but you’ll still have to pay the add-on fee for each one. Organizations on a Business plan get one free premium setup included.

Coupler.io Data Analytics Consulting Services

Coupler.io also provides guided consulting from data analytics specialists. This is a great option for organizations that need help getting started and assistance for creating custom dashboards.

The consulting service is completely tailored to your business. It covers everything from defining your data strategy to setting up the infrastructure to connect various tools into an integrated data system. Coupler.io can even help you set up proper tracking and reporting based on business analytics that they’ve defined for you.

If you have lots of data across multiple apps but you’re not quite sure how to leverage it, Coupler.io can help. The process starts with a call so they can better understand your goals before an official implementation plan is presented.

As for pricing, the average cost of a custom dashboard from a single source ranges from $5,000 to $8,000. The price for data flow automation from one source to one destination falls into the same range. However, each case is treated individually, so the price may be less. Additional consulting services from Coupler.io start at $120 per hour.

Organizations can also rely on Coupler.io for custom integrations. Let’s say you want to set up a dashboard or automation flow using apps that aren’t among the regularly available options on the platform. Coupler.io can connect the sources on your behalf, set up the automation, and handle monitoring with custom notifications.

Your Coupler.io consultants can even recommend specific tools that can help with your data infrastructure. This can be anything from a data warehouse to an analytics system or BI platform.

These consulting services and custom solutions really separate Coupler.io from the alternatives on the market. There are plenty of tools out there that connect data sources and help you create custom reports and dashboards, but few of them offer guided expertise to define your goals and set up automations and connectors that align with your strategy.

Summary

Coupler.io is an excellent option for any business that needs a way to make sense of data from multiple sources. You can pull raw data from apps and create custom reports and visual dashboards to get a big-picture view and make data-driven decisions.

We can recommend Coupler.io with confidence due its robust security features, automated data refreshing, and versatile use cases. You can get started today with a 14-day free trial.
