Changing trends in retail have seen malls across the US shuttered and fall into disrepair. Gruen didn’t just propose to collect numerous stores under one roof – in his initial imagining, the mall went beyond simply retail to also incorporate food, entertainment, and even green space, all in the same center. It was like Disneyland.
