Last year, BetterCloud’s new CIO Tommy Donnelly said that he wanted to push a lot of transformation across the organization, particularly around security and technology. He added, “There are just a lot of differences [in securing customer data] because BetterCloud is a 100% cloud native application.”

Securing our customers’ data has always been a top priority, but even more so over the past few months. This is one of many reasons that BetterCloud is proud to announce that our SaaS management platform (SMP) is ISO 27001 certified.

What is ISO 27001 certification?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the world’s largest developer of voluntary international certifications. The organization brings together experts to share knowledge and create what they describe as “consensus-based, market relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges.”

ISO 27001 provides organizations like BetterCloud with a framework for how a company should manage their information and data. Obtaining this certification typically involves a three-stage external audit process by ISO experts:

  • Stage 1: An informal review in which auditors check for complete documentation of the organization’s security policy
  • Stage 2: Auditors work to confirm that the organization’s management system has been properly designed and implemented according to ISO 27001 requirements
  • Follow-up: ISO 27001-certified organizations are regularly audited to confirm that the security program remains in compliance with the standard

As you can see, this process is long and exhaustive. Several people across the IT and Security functions here at BetterCloud deserve a round of applause for their work on our new ISO 27001 certification.

What does this mean for BetterCloud customers?

We’ve shared a lot of information about the ISO 27001 certification process, and for good reason. While it’s no secret that SaaS adoption is exploding, our new CTO Jamie Tischart recently said that security was the barrier to using even more applications and cloud services.

But what does this certification mean for current BetterCloud customers? Rest assured that nothing about your experience on the BetterCloud platform will change as a result of this announcement. However, with our new ISO 27001 certification, BetterCloud is thrilled to reaffirm its commitment to meeting the highest security standards for our customers.
